Father’s Day Hiking

With Father’s Day coming up I tried to do a quick search of hikes and/or mountains named Dad or something similar. Here’s three I was able to find. Do you know of another one? Let me know!

Old Dad Mountain – California

Elevation 4,251 ft

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife states that “Kelso Peak & Old Dad Mountains Wildlife Area is approximately 102,400 acres of dunes playa (dry lake), lava beds, and mountains of lime and granite. It has typical Mojave Desert vegetation, and is habitat for mountain sheep, golden eagles, and red-tailed hawks.”

Mt. Patriarch – New Zealand

Elevation 5,433 ft

The New Zealand Department of Conservation states “A 4WD road climbs steeply from Chalice car park for a further 7 km. It takes about three hours to walk, passing Planters Lookout, which has picnicking areas and great views.

At the end of the 4WD section a marked route leads to the summit (2 hr), negotiating a series of steep rocky ridges with the occasional sidle. It is not recommended for inexperienced or unfit trampers.”
